DEVICE PITSTOP: Protecting your Computer from Viruses
Device Pitstop is the place for computer repair, including slow computers and computer viruses.
We recommend customers looking for virus protection purchase Norton Anti-Virus. Norton Anti-Virus was recently rated the #1 anti-virus software by PCWorld. In general, we are not big fans of integrated security suite software. Our experience is that some of these software packages tend to slowdown computer performance.
On the Internet, hackers and others that perpetrate viruses tend to go where the people are. That means with the growth of Facebook and YouTube, more viruses are spreading through these popular sites. Whatever site generates high traffic in the future will undoubtedly attract future viruses.
Another option for customers is the Apple computer. While Apple is not 100% immune from virus attacks, the vast majority of viruses are written for Windows operating systems. Why? Again, because the virus perpetrators flock to the big numbers: Windows is still 90% of the market for operating systems, while Apple only comprises 7%.
However, keep in mind that if you switch from PC to Apple, you will likely need to buy all new software unless you get a Mac and then boot into a Windows operating system. But that does not solve the original problem of getting viruses, as you will be back on a Windows operating system. You also have to get accustomed to working your way around a Mac, which is a different experience from a PC.
DEVICE PITSTOP: Mobile Tech Repair vs. Device Pitstop Computer Repair
Looking for computer repair in Las Vegas? Computer repair in Henderson, Nevada? Computer repair in Minneapolis, MN? Device Pitstop is the place to get your computer fixed quickly at a decent price.
We are sometimes asked, “Why don’t you offer mobile tech repair service?”
We currently do not focus on mobile tech repair. Should we decide to offer it in the future, we would likely have to increase our prices and increase our turnaround times.
The first reason why our techs hang out at the store is cost savings for the customer. Device Pitstop repair customers do not have to pay the technician to go to their house. Since we do not have to insure a driver, pay for fuel or automobile costs, we can pass the savings along to you! Go ahead: compare our costs to the mobile tech repair guys!
The second reason is speed. Since the Device Pitstop techs are not driving around town looking for customer homes, they can spend all day at our stores repairing busted D.C. jacks, replacing motherboards or replacing LCD screens among other things. Device Pitstop does NOT ship your computer away to a central servicing center, like many mobile tech companies. Our techs and their tools and parts are located at each store, so we can get to work on your computer ASAP. With mobile tech chains, you might have to pay a mobile tech even though he or she did not bring adequate tools or parts to complete the job. Your computer might need to be shipped away or taken back to the “mother ship”. Not with Device Pitstop: we have the necessary tools and many times the right parts to get started on the job today!
Last of all, at Device Pitstop we do not charge by the hour but rather by the job performed. That way you know what to expect when paying for a repair. For your broken laptop or desktop, back up your important files (make sure you are doing this periodically) and then bring it down to Device Pitstop for an inexpensive and speedy repair!
DEVICE PITSTOP: Power Problems?
At Device Pitstop we fix plenty of broken DC Jacks. For the uninitiated, the DC Jack is where you plug in your power strip (aka your AC Adapter). In repairing computers at Device Pitstop, one common DC Jack problem we see is caused by a customer purchasing a “universal” adapter to power their computer. The universal adapter, commonly purchased at big box retailers and online, is supposed to power any make or model of laptop with a various array of tips to conform to the DC Jack of your computer.
We purchase laptop computers because they are mobile and we want to use them anywhere we go. However, because most tips on universal adapters are so long, they commonly take the brunt of our movements and pressure causing enormous stress on the DC Jack.
Our recommendation? Forego the universal adapter and come into Device Pitstop and we will find the AC Adapter that was made specifically for the make and model of your computer. And if you find your DC Jack is loose and broken, bring in your computer and we will repair it!
DEVICE PITSTOP: Buying and Selling Refurbished Computers
The idea of buying refurbished computers is not a new concept. A lot of people often consider this option, especially those who are in a very tight budget. Refurbished laptops and computers are typically computer units that are off-leased. These units are then sent to its manufacturing company for restoration if any internal or external problems are found. After refurbishing, the computer units pass through a series of technical assessments to ensure that all system are working just fine and meet the company’s standard for quality products. There are several advantages you can enjoy when buying refurbished computers, because not only will you be able to buy at half the price of a brand new unit, but you can also find updated computer specs that are much more affordable than buying a new one.
Device Pitstop also deals in refurbished computers, both in the creation and sales portion of the process. Device Pitstop stores will accept broken computers as trades towards new computers. We will then have our DP Certified Technicians repair the computer, tablet, or laptop back to it’s original, functional design. After the device has been restored, it can then be put on sale in the store. This product can then be sold at discount prices to your customers.
Customers can benefit from this service as well. Refurbished computers have the same capabilities as new computers, they just have small wear-and-tear from previous owners. However, there are a huge amount of savings to be had by shopping for refurbished, like-new computers instead of buying in the box at full retail prices. You can even bring in non-working items and trade for cash, allowing you to get a discount on new technology while letting your old technology find a new home! It’s win-win!
Stop by a Device Pitstop location near you to browse a selection of refurbished computers, laptops, tablets, mp3 players, iPhones, iPods, iPads, and more. You can also bring in your used or broken technology to trade for newer items, passing your technology on to a new home!
